BACKGROUND Storytelling is an art that comes in many different forms and started long before there was a written language. Stories explain things that happen in nature, and they entertain. They are a way we pass on our culture and the history of our people. Young and old alike -- we are all storytellers! FOCUS QUESTION How can songs help us learn about events in history?
STUDENT OBJECTIVES Identify main characters, setting, plot and sequence. Illustrate the four main parts of the story in order. Explain the role schooners played in our Great Lakes history. VOCABULARY WORDS Schooner Mast Bow Amidships MATERIALS A copy of the Activity Worksheet for each student Colored pencils, markers, and crayons Large sheet of drawing paper for each student Rulers may be helpful
TEACHER PREPARATION Schedule your IVC session. Make a copy of Activity Worksheet for each student and gather drawing supplies.
